Wow, Nancy! You've been quite busy!

That sounds like a pretty bad show, but at least you made the girl happy. I've seen those purses. It was sweet of you to do what you did.

I am an order processor for a beading company. I take care of payment, order adjustments, customer comments, and etc. It's just beads, but you wouldn't believe how hostile some of the customers are. "If I don't get my *** beads RIGHT NOW I will never shop with you again, and I will tell all of my friends not to shop with you either, and I will post bad comments about you all over the message boards and forums that I frequent!!!" It's good though that I am not in the customer service side of it. I couldn't handle people like that.

I wanted to be a famous novelist when I grew up--and also a journalist and a photographer. I had no idea that I'd have my own jewelry business either. :) My fiance is so supportive and helpful--I'm so lucky to have him. We met at a grocery store we worked at.

I hope you enjoy your playtime!

Christina

Hi Christina!

Sorry for the long delay in replying but I have been running around like a crazy person finishing orders, doing regular housework-type stuff like laundry, getting my office dug out so I can add some cabinets and countertops in the corner, and getting ready for the shows. We did a neighborhood garage sale last Sat. and went ahead and put out our stuff, just to see what was selling. We (me and a friend) both did pretty well but the big show is this weekend... I have to leave for it in about 5 hours! I never sleep well the night before a show.

Sorry your show was a bust. We have done shows where no one comes around - once I sat there all day and as we were starting to pack up, a little girl, maybe 4 years old, came in and loved my little recycled greeting card boxes. I sell them 3 for a dollar or 1 free with purchase. She wanted 3 boxes and her Mom and I both kept offering up $1.00 bracelets so she could have both. She insisted she wanted the boxes... so I made $1.00... all day... at closing time... from a 4 year old girl who just wanted to put something in her new purse (silly thing made from some drink package knit together to make a little boxy purse) she bought from a lady around the corner. I tossed in some freebies (piece of candy, pencil with wire and beads on it, and the bracelet she liked but didn't buy. She was so happy - very cute. That's why I like the shows, getting out to see, meet, greet, and chat with the people... hopefully, mostly customers. ;)

My store, if I ever use it, is on my personal web site and I keep meaning to work on the site but Real Life is just piling stuff on that To Do List (almost as big as the To Be Read List but not nearly as fun.)

What kind of work do you do? I used to design software with my math degree - it's where I met my hubby - he was working database on the project. Before that, I managed a movie theater - probably the most fun job I ever had. But when the hubby got an offer to move to Florida, I quit and off we went. I never went back because as I was fixing up my resume, we got pregnant. Four kids later, a cat and a dog later, four houses later (now in a dream house on a fabulous wooded lot a little out of town) and suddenly I own my own jewelry and craft business. I never would have guessed. I always wanted to be an artist but jewelry? I have a knack for it and it is so much fun to do... but I don't need to tell you that. I even have a couple of the kids on DeviantArt - both girls are around here causing trouble somewhere. :D

Have fun! I'll play after this weekend (and after the orders are filled, assuming there are some to fill) - I'll start getting ready for the other big show in November. I have so much to learn so I can offer new stuff - always I learn new things so I can add to the inventory. IT'S SO MUCH FUN!!
- Nancy
